Brief Description This Sperry-Rand UNIVAC 1110 was one of two units used at the Wanganui Computer Centre, where the government kept information on people with criminal records and holders of firearms and driving licenses. It became operational in July 1976 and was the centre of attention in New Zealand on several occasions, including after a suicide bombing in 1982. This is one of the large units from that computer. The system stored information for the New Zealand Police and Justice Departments and the Ministry of Transport. Information was accessible from 200 remote computer terminals spread throughout the country.
