Name/Title NETSUKE
Brief Description This mennetsuke, or masked netsuke, is of a carved head in the form of a noh mask, very exaggerated for effect, with its elongated face, bulging eyes with brown stones for pupils and the jaw open in a grimace to show two long fangs and six small pointed teeth.

Netsuke were used as toggles to secure purses or baskets to belts. From being purely practical, netsuke developed into highly valued works of art, often referencing Japanese culture, history and traditions.
