Brief Description |
This type specimen preserved in alcohol is Oligosoma suteri, Suter's skink. It was collected by Henry Suter, a zoologist and palaeontologist, in the late 19th century. He discovered the skink on Flax Island, one of the Mokohinau Islands, which are 100 kilometres northeast of Auckland. Suter's skinks are the only native lizard that lays eggs. They are sometimes called diving skinks, because they live on the shore and will venture into rock pools.
