Brief Description |
This East African lyre has a round body made of wood, covered with sennit thread and a piece of goatskin and with a snakeskin sound board. Two wooden rods pass through the snakeskin and are bound to a third rod to form a triangular frame for eight sinew strings. The frame is decorated with tufts of black and white goat hair.
Lyres and guitars were around centuries before violins, and are played by plucking the strings with the fingers.
