Name/Title Dinornis sp. (Giant Moa); partial femur, fossil
Brief Description This piece of dense femur is a fossil moa bone. This bone was probably found in the vicinity of Ototoka Stream, in the Kai Iwi area of the Whanganui district, north of Mowhanau Beach. The black shiny stone it is composed of is similar to other fossil moa bone from the Butler's Shell Conglomerate, a layer about 1 million years old.
