Brief Description |
A black and white photograph taken from the Whanganui Town Bridge looking across the Whanganui River towards Durie Hill. The river is calm and flat with the handrail of the town bridge on the right. The Red Lion Hotel stands on the opposite side of the river, with T G Philpot Grocer & General Dealer, Gordon Stables & Henry Stablers, and the Durie Hill stairs, and a sale yard to the leftl. Several houses and Bain's store are visible on Durie Hill, and A W McKenzie's is on the far right. The river bank still shows extreme erosion from the 1904 flood. Photograph munted on cream backing card.
