Black and white photograph of a train crash at Rātana in 1938. The Wellington-New Plymouth weekend excursion train crashed, six passengers died and more than 40 were injured. The photograph was commissioned by New Zealand Railways.

These photos were printed by Leigh Mitchell-Anyon from the Lampe Collection of negatives owned by Leigh Mitchell-Anyon Photographer Ltd. They were printed specifically for the Lampe Light exhibition March - July 1999. The Museum paid for the materials archival photographic paper and chemicals) and Leigh donated his time and expertise.
