One of a collection of black and white photographs of buildings and streets in Whanganui. This print shows a model of the new Post Office building planned for Ridgway Street.
Designed by acclaimed Whanganui architect R G Talboys, the building incorporated Māori decorative motifs and was a signal building for planned corporate architecture. The Wanganui Chamber of Commerce strongly supported the development of the new Post Office. The photographer, Frank Bethwaite, was President of the Chamber from 1937 to 1939.
