One of a collection of black and white photographs of buildings and streets in Whanganui, this print is a view of Victoria Avenue from the corner of Taupo Quay. Eide's sports supplyshop is visible in the left foreground; Eides shifted premises but still trades in Whanganui.
The public transport superstructure was practical. People needed to be able to get around for shopping, for work and for school. A tram system ran right through the centre of town and linked with the suburbs and industrial areas. This meant that street landscaping was rare, the road spaces being needed to fit large trams and the lines they ran on.
