PHOTOGRAPH; Ridgway Street from St Hill Street
|
Brief Description |
One of a collection of black and white photographs of buildings and streets in Whanganui. Ridgway Street from St Hill Sreet.
The importance of corner sites having good architecture to attract customers and open up the streetscape is demonstrated in the gracious Criterion Hotel building. The Criterion was originally built as a Coffee House, or a temperance hotel. Interesting to see a line-up of cars outside the hotel – was drinking and driving a standard practice in the 1930s?
