Name/Title PHOTOGRAPH; War Memorial, Queens Park
Brief Description One of a collection of black and white photographs of buildings and streets in Whanganui, thisprint being the War Memorial Monument in Queens Park. The Cenotaph is a memorial to the men and women of Wanganui who died in the First World War, 1914-1918.

A debate over where the cenotaph should be meant that construction was delayed until 1923, five years after the idea was accepted. Architects Reginald Ford and Robert Talboys won a local design competition for the Queens Park Cenotaph and local builders Walpole and Patterson constructed the monument from reinforced concrete faced with Coromandel granite.
