One of a collection of black and white photographs of buildings and streets in Whanganui, this print is of St Hill Street with the Ladies Rest in right foreground and the Opera House and Council Chambers visible to the left.
The corporate provision of public facilities in Wanganui was rarely matched by other towns. The Ladies Rest was built in 1930 to replace older facilities in Guyton Street and has the Wanganui City Council name and coat of arms over door.
