Brief Description One of a collection of black and white photographs of buildings and streets in Whanganui, this print is of Bell Street in the Queens Park area between Bates Street and Park Place, looking towards Durie Hill.

Just down the hill from where the Rutland Stockade was once situated on Queens Park, was the Police Station, originally built in 1876.

Also visible is the old Masonic Lodge, built in 1884.This is a reminder of the days when most businessmen were lodge members. Masons cultivated acquaintances and business contacts and also provided charitable support for many individuals and organisations.
