Barkcloth (tapa) made from inner bark paper mulberry tree (Broussonetia papyrifera); brown dye; siapo tasina or siapo elei, Samoan barkcloth patterned from a design tablet, emphasised with freehand overpainting with a black and brown resinous glaze of o'a sap mixed with charcoal from lama nut kernels. Border of brownish/black dye; complex pattern over body of cloth divided into 100 squares (10x10) of lines and zig-zags with overpainting of lines. semi-circles and circles with central slot, brown dye used with pattern board.
