Barkcloth (tapa) made from inner bark paper mulberry tree (Broussonetia papyrifera); brown dye; siapo tasina or siapo elei, Samoan barkcloth patterned from a design tablet, emphasised with freehand overpainting with a black and brown resinous glaze of o'a sap mixed with charcoal from lama nut kernels. Plain barkcloth border. Body of cloth divided into 16 squares (4x4) with dark brown borders and simple over-painting in dark brown including a flower motif.
