Brief Description |
This black and white photograph shows the interior of the Wanganui Public Museum, built between 1892 and 1895, and opened in 1895 in Wicksteed Place, later renamed Drews Avenue, in Whanganui. When a new Museum building opened on Queens Park in 1928, the old building became the Savage Club Hall. The image shows taonga Māori and animals on display and walls lined with glass cabinets containing the ornithological collection. The photograph shows taonga Maori and animals on display and the walls lined with glass cabinets filled with collection objects and a Maori whare along the top of the back wall.
