This black and white photogaph is of pupils, teachers and possibly school governors of Wanganui Boys School, located in Victoria Avenue, Whanganui.
The photograph was presented to Thomas Spurdle as a 2nd class certificate for regular attendance at school, at Christmas time in 1896.
Two rows of boys kneel or stand in front of two rows of men; several boys hold straw hats and one in the centre holds the collar of a black and white spaniel dog. Fred Spurdle is identified as the sixth from left in the second row and Thomas Spurdle is in the front, near the dog holding a hat.
