Brief Description These panpipes are made of six sections of bamboo lashed together with plant fibres, the pipes decreasing in size.

Panpipes date back to the Neolithic age and are thought to be the ancestor of the mouth organ and the pipe organ. Panpipes are made of tubes of different lengths with the bases closed off, and sound is created by blowing across the open tops. The set you see here was made in Vanuatu in about 1899.
