Name/Title Pachyornis geranoides (Mantell's Moa); articulated skeleton
Brief Description Skeleton of a medium-sized moa, made up of mainly Pachyornis geranoides bones, and with missing bones made of brown modelling clay. Assembled from bones recovered from Makirikiri Swamp. Missing bones include atlas, axis, parts of the vertebrae, some phalanges and part of the maxilla. Although this skeleton has been labelled P. geranoides, its bones and skull seem more likely to be Anomalopteryx didiformis. It was repositioned in the 1990s with its right femur almost vertical, an anatomically-impossible angle.
Classification Anomalopteryx didiformis/Anomalopteryx
