Brief Description |
This portrait-format postcard is printed on card with a semi-gloss finish and features a hand coloured image of the figure of Britannia wearing a flowing white gown and Greek-style helmet, holding a trident in one hand and a shield bearing the Union Jack in the other. A map is featured in the background behind her, flanked by the Union Jack flag on one side and the Lion Rampant flag on the other, and a crown in the centre.
The postcard has the first verse of the song "Land of Hope and Glory" printed on the bottom: LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY (1). / Dear Land of Hope, thy hope is crowned, / God make thee mightier yet; / On Sov'ran brows, beloved, renowned, / Once more they crown is set. / Thine equal laws, by Freedom gained, / Have ruled thee well and long; / By Freedom gained, by Truth / Maintained, / Thine Empire shall be strong."
The postcard has been filled out on the reverse with a message from Aunty Lou to Cecil, but does not appear to have been posted.
