Three of the men have been identified as Ken Buckhouse of Eide & Co store; Dave Strachan, the Editor of the Wanganui Chronicle and the Manager of the Whanganui Branch of the National Bank. The photograph was taken on Sir Arthur Porritt's last visit to Whanganui as Governor General.
Arthur Espie Porritt (Bt, GCMG, GCVO, CBE) was born on 10 August 1900 in Whanganui and passed away on 1 January 1994 in London. He was a physician, military surgeon, statesman and athlete He served as the 11th Governor-General of New Zealand between 1967 and 1972.
