Brief Description This gold solidus dates from the 9th century CE (869-79) and comes from Constantinople the Eastern Captial of the Byzantine Empire. The obverse features the Emperor Basil I and his son Constantine on the obverse while the reverse has Christ with his right hand raised in benediction and his left holding a book of Gospels.
