Brief Description Black and white photograph of a tribute to the Black Powder Men in September 1971. The image shows a group of men in military uniform lined up in the centre of the Wanganui War Memorial Hall forecourt, with rifles raised in the air. Other military personnel are grouped around the edge of the forecourt, while observers line the steps in front of the Wanganui Regional Museum. Flags are raised on poles in the foreground.

The ceremonial shooting was held to honour the Black Powder Men, soldiers of the 19th century in New Zealand, who fought with black powder weapons.
