Brief Description Small black and white photograph of Mr H Thomas Adamson, recipient of the New Zealand Cross. Reprint of an original carte de visite. Studio portrait of a man wearing a dark suit with white shirt, holding a cane in one hand and a hat in the other. The man stands with one hand resting on the back of a chair which is placed next to a table with a small vase of flowers, against a painted backdrop.

Thomas Adamson was born in Whanganui in 1847. He was a member of the Wanganui Fire Brigade in 1866, and was engaged in the Maori Wars where he earned the New Zealand Cross. Adamson married Nika Waiata in 1910, although they are reported as being married in the Wanganui Herald on 1884. Although they had no natural children they did adopt. He passed away on 29th December 1913.
