Brief Description Small black and white photograph of Thomas Adamson, reprint of an original carte de visite. Studio portrait of a man wearing a dark suit with white shirt and thin dark bow tie and a white handkerchief in his breast pocket, standing holding a hat in one hand and leaning against a balustrade placed against a plain background.

Thomas Adamson was born in Whanganui in 1847. He was a member of the Wanganui Fire Brigade in 1866, and was engaged in the Maori Wars where he earned the New Zealand Cross. Adamson married Nika Waiata in 1910, although they are reported as being married in the Wanganui Herald on 1884. Although they had no natural children they did adopt. He passed away on 29th December 1913.
