This small sepia-toned carte de visite photograph is of Thomas Aiken. The studio portrait shows a man wearing striped trousers and a woollen coat, seated in ¾ profile with his legs crossed and a hat balanced on his knee. His hair is elaborately styled and he has a full bushy beard.
The Aikens were a large family in the Matarawa/Waverley areas. Thomas Harold Aiken was the son of George Charles Aiken, a farmer at Waverley. Thomas married Frances Turner.
