Brief Description This small sepia-toned carte-de-visite photograph is of Captain "Luck" Allen of the PS Wairere. This head and shoulders studio portrait is of a young man wearing a striped suit jacket over a pale shirt and tie, with neatly brushed hair and clean shaven. Mounted on white card.

Captain Allen worked on the paddle steamer PS "Wairere" as a mate, on the Whanganui River in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The PS "Wairere" was owned by the Alexander Hatrick shipping company and took sightseers and tourists up the Whanganui River to Pipiriki and beyond.
