Gavin Hamilton Blair was a publican at the Steam Packet Hotel on Taupo Quay in Wanganui. Gavin married Mary Maria Davidson in 1870, who died in 1876 aged 49 years. During his time in Whanganui Gavin was also involved in shipping, owning the 'Satelite' from 1871-1876, the 'Success' from 1872-1875, and had a half share in the 'Kate' from 1873-1874.
