John Edward Palmer was born in Patea in July 1867, son of William, and became a butcher and baker in Waverley. He married Rose Magdalene Thurston in 1894 and they had the following children:
John Stewart born 1895, died aged 3months
Eleanor Rose born 1896, married Andrew Desmond Leydon in Hawera 1950
Philip Desmond born 1898, married Ada Magdalene Williams in 1921 whoc died in 1925, Philip went on to marry Veronica Cecelia Watson in 1927
Rona born 1904, died young
Another unnamed child, died young
