Name/Title TAPA; MASI BOLABOLA
Brief Description Barkcloth (tapa) made from inner bark paperr mulberry tree (Broussonetia papyrifera); the Fijian name for the cloth is masi bolabola. The cloth is cut into three separate parts and also has the top right hand corner section missing. The cloth if complete would be almost square in shape. The cloth is patterned in bands; black border along one side and brown along the bottom; a thick black strip around two edges; a stenciled brown flower pattern enclosing Cakaudrove style patterrns in the middle. The Cakaudrove patterns are hand painted in black dye. Tapa is from Fiji.
