Name/Title PHOTOGRAPH; The "Kahanui" Turning a Vessel at Castleclif
Brief Description Black and white photo of the port of Castlecliff showing shipping action. The photo shows the new 30,000 pound tug "Kahanui"assisting to push around an overseas vessel, The Mesopotamia" at the mouth of the Whanganui River. The photo shows the railway line running alongside the wharf and several people watching the procedure from the wharf. The "Mesopotamia's" gross weight was 4363 tons in carrying 4080 tons of cargo into Whanganui, carrying 8000 odd dead weight. This says something of its capabilities of its parts and its ability of its pilot Captain McIntyre. 4000 ton of cargo is the most any ship has brought to this port in one hit.
