PHOTOGRAPH; The "Foreric" and "Queen Maud" at Castlecliff
|
Brief Description |
Black and white photo of the port of Castlecliff showing for the first time two overseas vessles, both about 6,000 tons. The "Queen Maud" is in the centre of the picture and "The Foreric" on the extreme left. The Foreric was discharging phosphates and berthed on 11 May 1927. The photo shows the rainway line and an unsealed road following the coast to the Freezing Works. On the extreme left is the hard working dredge. And in the foreground is the clay that the dredge must move before large steamers can be turned. The new wharf on the right from the "Queen Maud" means the wharf could accomodate for six overseas vessels at one time.
