Name/Title TAPA: NGATU TAHINA
Brief Description Barkcloth (tapa) made from inner bark paper mulberry tree (Broussonetia papyrifera); ngatu tahina, Tongan barkcloth characterised by large areas of light brown with simple to complex patterns. Plain border each end with simple line pattern in black and brown. Body divided into 4 bands of Kupes; rubbed pattern,simple line pattern in Koka dye. Borders between the plain pattern, main sections are all different. two feature leaf patterns and two are geometric diamond and chevron patterns, the last border has a zig-zag pattern. Below each painted border is a rubbed pattern from a different Kupesi board. There are 15 black hand painted dots on tapa (fo'ihea or tukihea.)
