Barkcloth (tapa) made from inner bark paper mulberry tree (Broussonetia papyrifera). Brown and black dye. Siapo mamanu, Samoan barkcloth with freehand painted patterns, heavy brownish-black resinous glaze (dye) made of o'a sap mixid with charcoal from lama nut kernels. The tapa cloth is almost square in shape. The patterns feature a border at two of the ends which have the Fa'avaetuli or sandpiper foot prints design. The body of the tapa is divided into 4 strips, three of which are wide and feature diamond shapes, which could be a combination of the Fa'a ali'ao (trochus shell) patterns and Tusiíli'i. (small lines). The other strip feature more of the Fa'avae tuli patterns and is thin.
