Barkcloth (tapa) made from inner bark paper mulberry tree (Broussonetia papyrifera); brown dye; siapo tasina or siapo elei, Samoan barkcloth patterned from a design tablet, emphasised with freehand overpainting with a black and brown resinous glaze of o'a sap mixed with charcoal from lama nut kernels. Two types of tablet pattern. One is triangular the other based on a flower motif. Each square of tablet pattern has a zig-zag border around it. The triangular tablet squares are over-painted with dots and triangles. While the other squares have a diagonal wave-pattern. Outside lines and borders are over-painted . A rectangular section has been cut from one corner.
