Siapo tasina or siapo elei or barkcloth (tapa); Samoa; made from inner bark paper mulberry tree (Broussonetia papyrifera), brown dye; siapo tasina or siapo elei is a type of Samoan barkcloth patterned from a design tablet, emphasised with freehand overpainting; for the overpainting a black and brown resinous glaze (dye) of o'a sap mixed with charcoal from lama nut kernels has been used, also patches of red/brown dye within the design. Siapo is square in shape divided into 64 small squares featuring starfish designs (fa'a aveau) and small lines (tusili'i) in various patterns. There are 16 starfish over the siapo.
