Brief Description This skull and mandible are of a hedgehog, mounted on a small black-painted wooden plinth. Native to Europe, Asia and Africa, they were successful introductions to New Zealand.

Hedgehogs belong to the subfamily Erinaceinae and are nocturnal insectivores. They are also called urchins, hedgepigs and furze-pigs.
