Name/Title |
BADGE, LAPEL; HONOURABLE DISCHARGE, WORLD WAR I
|
Brief Description |
The Silver War Badge was created in 1916 and awarded to men who were honourably discharged under specific regulations. Also referred to as the Silver Wound Badge, it was awarded to military personnel who had served at home or overseas during World War I, and who had been discharged from the army under King’s Regulations. Often the badge was awarded after men had been wounded and disabled; hence its nickname.
The silver badge is circular with the words "For King and Empire – Services Rendered" surrounding the King George V cypher. The badges were individually numbered and the original owner of the badge can be traced from that number. On the back of this badge is the number "N Z 10766". Also on the back are catches for attachment.
