This sepia-toned carte de visite photograph is of Mr Charles Parkinson, the editor of the Wanganui Chronicle, taken by Frank R Huff at the American Photographic Rooms on Victoria Avenue, Whanganui. The head-and-shoulders portrait is of an old man with a balding head and a tidy beard.
The image is mounted in an oval mat and glued onto a backing card. The photographer's mark is printed on the reverse.
Charles Parkinson was born in 1819. He married Jane Eleanor Smith in London and they sailed to New Zealand in 1852 aboard the "Rajah". Charles was a farmer at Marton, a teacher at Turakina and a journalist and, at one point, editor of the Wanganui Chronicle.

Charles died in1881 aged 62 years and Jane died 1896 aged 69 years.
