This carte de visite photograph of Mr William Patrick Campbell was taken by Frank R Huff at the American Photographic Rooms on Victoria Avenue, Whanganui. The sepia-toned head-and-shoulders portrait is of a man with short cropped hair and a long beard. The image is mounted behind an oval mat and glued to a backing card. The photographer's mark is printed on the reverse.
William Patrick Campbell was born in Petone in 1841, the son of Moses and Jessie Campbell, shortly after the family's arrival in New Zealand. The Campbells arrived in Whanganui aboard the Clydesdale in 1841 and settled as farmers in Wiritoa. William farmed, working in the Whanganui and Hunterville areas.
