Accession No 1805.371
Name/Title Phascolarctos cinereus (Koala); mount
Brief Description The koala is an arboreal herbivorous marsupial native to coastal south-eastern Australia. It is related to the wombat, but lives in and feeds almost exclusively on Eucalyptus trees. This is not a high-energy diet, so koalas sleep for 20 hours a day.
This fully mounted specimen was removed from its original base probably during creation of diorama displays in 1970s; the new base was made for display by Peter Russell in 1995. It possibly dates from Samuel Drew's original collection, as it is pictured in an 1899 Museum interior photograph.
