Brief Description Three shells of Oparara giant land snails (Powelliphanta annectens), collected by Arthur Richardson, 4 March 1938, on a ridge above Katipo Creek, near where the Heaphy Track runs today. A keen shell collector, Richardson had converted his car to contain a bed and gone on a expedition from the North Island. On 4 March with two guides and a companion he collected 300 snails in the forest around Katipo Creek.
