Name/Title ENGRAVINGS; Captain Cook's Voyages
Brief Description This book or folder of copper-plate engravings shows scenes from the travels of Captain James Cook on his third and fatal voyage of exploration to the Pacific. HMS "Resolution" left Britain in July 1776 and John Webber was employed as one of the voyage's official artists.

When he returned to London in 1780, Webber presented about 200 finished works to the Admiralty; in the next four years he re-drew many and oversaw engravers and printers who were readying his works for publication.

The folder has a marbled card cover and each print is made on heavy high quality rag paper and is interleaved with a fine tissue page. A map titled "Chart of the NW coast of America and the NE coast of Asia" is inserted at the front of the folder.
