Black and white photographic portrait mounted on card, of Ellen Jillie Amelia, wife of W H S Nicholls, holding a young baby aged about six months. Photograph taken by J Low of Waikato, in November 1874.
Portrait of a woman with hair piled high on her head, seated with one arm resting on a table and the other supporting the infant in her lap. The child, possibly named Nellie, wears a long white gown with dark-coloured ribbons at the shoulders.
W H S Nicholls was son of Charles Henry Sinderby Nicholls, Minister of the Christ Church Parish of Whanganui. W H S Nicholls had spent time in Ngaruawahia and Dargaville but took the position of Postmasterat Paeroa and became well known to residents of the Waikato. He passed away suddenly due to ill health in 1892.
