Barkcloth (tapa) made from inner bark paper mulberry tree (Broussonetia papyrifera); brown dye; siapo mamanu, Samoan barkcloth with freehand painted patterns, heavily painted with a black and brown resinous glaze of of o'a sap mixed with charcoal ofr black dye from lama nut kernels. Two borders of zig-zag pattern. 1. border plain, 4th edge appears cut as original cloth is larger. Body patterned with 42 squares of two alternating designs; rhomboid shapes and lines; each square bordered with thick dark brown line. 2. layers.
