Brief Description |
Medal is the Order of Medjid and it consists of a silver seven-pointed star with small crescents and stars between the rays. In the centre is a gold medallion with the Sultan's tughra, surrounded by a red-enamelled gold ring with the words "Zeal, Devotion, Loyalty" in Arabic script. The badge is suspended by a red-enamelled crescent and star device and mounted on a red ribbon with green borders.
A tughra is an Ottoman sultan's seal or signature, affixed to official documents. It was also stamped on coins minted during his reign.
This medal was often awarded to British officers before World War I and to German officers during World War I.
