Manson's Store is visible in the centre of the view, with the Wanganui Rowing Club at the left and the Railway Hotel at the right. Four young boys have their trouser legs rolled up and are wading in the waters, with further people standing in the background.
Photograph was taken on 13 February 1891 while the Whanganui River was experiencing a flood.
