Brief Description |
A black and white photograph of the staff of the East Town Railway Workshops Yard in Whanganui, during a Boer War Peace Celebrations. The photograph was taken outside the Whanganui Railway Station, and shows a large crowd of men gathered at the end of the building with trees on either side and a cannon in the centre. The gun was made at East Town by a Mr. Coles, a blacksmith. The gun was fired that day, and last shot that day was fired in front of the old Drill hall when Mr. Jury damaged his eyes lighting the powder at the touch hole. The East Town Workshops was built and occupied in 1879. Photograph mounted on green backing card.
