One of a collection of black and white photographs of buildings and streets in Whanganui, this print is a view of Somme Parade from the corner of Park Place.
Small cottages on Somme Parade were built for working men and their families. The men were employed by the Railways, the Electric Power Board and similar public corporations. Their work places were a short walk away and they were sited nearly at the riverside, which would later become some of the most sought after real estate in Whanganui.
