One of a collection of black and white photographs of buildings and streets in Whanganui, this print is of Victoria Avenue from the Maria Place intersection with the Majestic Theatre in the right foreground.
Majestic Square opened in 2004 to provide unrestricted views from Queens Park to Cooks Gardens via a green space and entertainment venue. St Mary’s Church was demolished in 1973 and a new church built in Campbell Street. The Majestic Theatre was demolished in 1979 but lent its name to the new space.
